Understanding Bobbin Styles A bobbin's diameter and height are called its style. Each sewing machine brand and model uses a particular bobbin style and will not work with other bobbin styles.

SA156 - also known as Class 15, A style, or Size A is 13/16 inch (20mm) in diameter (approximately the size of a nickel) and 7/16 inch (12mm) high. It's top and bottom, called the flanges, are flat. Most sewing machines use this type of bobbin. If your sewing machine makes computerized embroidery, it probably uses this type of bobbin.

SA155 or the L style or Size L has the same diameter and flat flanges but is only 5/16 inch (9mm) high. This type is the most common embroidery bobbin for home and commercial sewing machines.
